SA at the Back of the Class on NAPLAN

The State Liberals have expressed concern that the finalised NAPLAN results, released today, once again show South Australia was lowest or second lowest of all states in eighteen out of twenty categories.

"This continues a trend of decline that successive Labor Governments have presided over for fourteen years," said Shadow Education Minister John Gardner.

"We should be aiming for nothing less than the best schools in Australia for our children. Under Labor that goal is a long way off.

"The Liberal Party policy agenda would improve our results.

“Putting year 7 in high school, increasing local school autonomy and tackling school truancy are all geared to improve academic achievement and give our children the best chance in life.

"For South Australia to finish last, or second last, in eighteen out of twenty categories isn't good enough.

Rather than make excuses for these results, Jay Weatherill should be introducing the sort of reforms that we have proposed."
