Secondary Supply of Alcohol to Minors

A petition requesting the house to support legislation banning the provision of alcohol by an adult to a minor, without the consent of that minor's parent or guardian

To the Honourable the Members of the House of Assembly in Parliament assembled

The Petition of the undersigned residents of South Australia.
Argument
We draw the attention of your Honourable House
to the
fact that South Australia and Western
Australia stand alone in allowing adults to legally supply alcohol to minors in private residences,
without the consent of the minor’s parent or guardian.
It is argued that
parents should be entitled to presume that if they do not feel it is appropriate to
introduce alcohol to their child prior to the age of 18, then their child will not be
lawfully
supplied with
alcohol by anyone else. Making it illegal to do so will provide some reassurance for parents, and will
reduce the current burden of peer pres
sure or potential social exclusion of their child if they are
refused permission to attend a party on the basis that alcohol may be supplied.
Request
Your petitioners therefore request the House to
support legislation banning the provision of alcohol by
an adult to a minor, without the consent of that minor’s parent or guardian.
