This was the State Liberals’ policy at the 2014 State Election.
“South Australia is the only jurisdiction in Australia that still has Year 7 students in primary school and has made no plans for a transition to high school,” said Shadow Minister for Education John Gardner.
“It’s time that we bring our Year 7 students in line with the national curriculum.
“This will not only challenge students academically, but it will also provide them with a better educational environment and facilities.
“Compared to other Australian states, South Australian students are already at a disadvantage because they start high school a year later.
“The national curriculum has a focus on specialist maths, science and english teaching for Year 7 students.
“Moving Year 7 students into high school would ensure that our students are not left behind their interstate counterparts.
“Our students deserve better.”
