Mr GARDNER: I will go straight to questions. In relation to—let's take Budget Paper 4, Volume 3, page 141—there are a number of other potential references. I would like to begin, if I might, with a number of questions arising from the Coroner's inquest into the death of Zahra Abrahimzadeh. It is a serious matter, and I do appreciate the information that I have been provided by SAPOL over the last fortnight in relation to this matter, and I acknowledge that there are number of reforms that SAPOL has undertaken as a result of the case.
Mr GARDNER: I refer to Budget Paper 4, Volume 1, pages 142-3, relating to the workforce summary and the program net cost of services summary. Does the government have any plans or has the government done any scoping work on getting any services privatised in the coming year?
Mr GARDNER: Yes, can I have a question first? On Budget Paper 4, Volume 1, page 125, the objective is to ‘provide secure youth training facilities for young people who are detained.’ Minister, in Corrections estimates on Monday, minister Piccolo was asked about whether the government had any plans to utilise either of the youth justice facilities at Cavan to hold adult prisoners—especially at times of surge, is what I have in mind, but at any time. While he has said the government did not have any plans to do so, he refused to rule it out. Minister, can you please rule out any possibility that either of the youth justice facilities at Cavan will be utilised to hold adult prisoners?
Mr GARDNER: I think this is Budget Paper 4, Volume 3, page 44, DASSA. I want to tease out the figures in the activity indicators a little bit to gain a better understanding, and perhaps that is useful to have on the public record. For the record, perhaps we can start with the fact that there are two activity indicators: the number of inpatient separations, non-hospital; and the number of outpatient attendances. There are estimated results for the end of the 2013-14 financial year in both indicators. Now that we have past the end of the financial year, I am wondering whether we have the actuals for the 2013-14 financial year to the 30 June. I am very happy if it needs to be taken on notice.
Mr GARDNER: I have a question in relation to Budget Paper 4, Volume 2, page 49, under Highlights—and we might refer to this one a couple of times, potentially—regarding the conduct of the 2004 state election.
Mr GARDNER (Morialta) (15:20): My question is to the Minister for Police. Can the minister advise the house what is being doneto find the group of young asylum seekers who are reported to have fled their homes in northern Adelaide this week?
The Weatherill Government came under fire in Question Time today after revelations by Police Commissioner Gary Burns that the overflow of prisoners into police cells was starting “to impact on police operations”.
Mr GARDNER (Morialta) (12:54): Viva Campania, indeed. It gives me great pleasure to support the motion. I thank the member for Hartley for bringing it forward. I agree with everything that he said, as the member for Florey has said and, I imagine, the member for Light is probably going to try to say if there is any time.
