Mr GARDNER (Morialta) (15:19:58): I want to reflect on the Premier's performance in question time today, which I thought was an extraordinary example of spin, dissembling and post-hoc justifications. I think that the extraordinary series of commissions, inquiries, coronial inquests and the disturbing betrayals of faith the community has in the government's handling of child protection over the last 14 years have traumatised many in the community. It has led to a series of responses in the parliament today that have really been nothing more than spin, dissembling and post-hoc justifications.
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (15:03): My question is to the Premier. When was the Premier advised of the interim recommendation by Commissioner Nyland to establish a stand-alone child protection agency? When did he decide to move Mr Harrison from education and when did he inform Mr Harrison of that decision?
Mr GARDNER (Morialta) (15:08:48): My question is to the Premier. What specific qualifications does Mr Rick Persse have that qualify him to be the 10th chief executive officer for the Department for Education during the term of this government?
Mr GARDNER (Morialta) (15:31:46):Today, I wish to talk about a new development taking place in my area that a number of constituents are quite concerned about. The proposal is for 18 two-storey dwellings to be built on 301,007 square metres of land on the corner of George Street and La Scala Court in the suburb of Paradise. Existing residents of La Scala Court, many of whom are elderly, purchased their properties on the premise that the land across the road would not be developed according to the plans—
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (15:17): Today, I want to bring the attention of the house to some very important matters relating to the Kurralta Park Kindergarten that were first brought to my attention by the member for Hindmarsh, Mr Matt Williams MP, an incredibly hardworking local member. His hard work, I know, is appreciated by many of his constituents, in particular the 105 constituents associated with the Kurralta Park Kindergarten who signed a petition that was tabled prior to question time today. Those 105 constituents of Mr Matt Williams MP have asked this house to note their petition, which reads as follows:
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (14:55): My question is to the Minister for Education. Has the total amount of additionality funding delivered under the Gonski agreement in 2014 and 2015 been delivered to schools?
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (15:16): One of the great pleasures of my portfolio of shadow minister for the arts is the opportunity to participate in History Month events. This History Month, I want to commend not only the organisers of History Month itself, but all the many local community history organisations that have endeavoured to put on a spectacular array of events around South Australia. I have had the pleasure of attending some of those in Adelaide, and I particularly want to reflect on a couple of them.
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (15:03): My question is to the Minister for Education and Child Development. How many students across South Australia have been identified with such behavioural management problems that the assistance of the department's 'behaviour support coaches' is required? Are these 'behaviour support coaches' teachers, social workers or do they have other qualifications?
Mr GARDNER(Morialta) (15:03): My question is to the Minister for Education and Child Development. What steps is the government going to take to provide a safer environment for teachers and students in our classrooms given the increase in assaults on teachers by students, from 231 in 2012 to 549 in 2015?
